MSAA Executive Director Job Description

MSAA Mission Statement: The Main Street Area Association is a membership based association of local businesses, organizations and individuals committed to the long term success and vitality of Downtown Ann Arbor.

Job Brief: The Main Street Area Association Executive Director is responsible to uphold the organization’s Mission through promotion, event coordination, advocacy, networking, administration, communication, and development. The position reports directly to the MSAA Executive Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

Membership:

  • Organize and facilitate MSAA general membership meetings

  • Provide information, resources, and opportunities to member businesses

Communication: Good communication and collaboration skills are essential. For this role, you will work with MSAA Members, City Administration, the DDA, City Council Members, the press, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Public Schools, the other Downtown Districts, and various other community partners.

Marketing / Promotion:

  • Manage social media accounts and three websites: MSAA, Ann Arbor Restaurant Week, ShowYourLoveA2.org

  • Do various interviews with the press throughout the year regarding various topics

  • Create ads and organize campaigns for various

Administration:

  • Responsible for budgeting and day to day bookkeeping

  • Facilitate all check requests, process payments to MSAA, and note associated account numbers in financial statements for the accountant
    Prepare all MSAA event permits (meter bag requests, banner requests, event permit applications, certificates of insurance)

Advocacy: Identify shared concerns among members or special asks to the City and advocate for them to City Council, City Administration, and the press. Occasionally, attend City Council meetings.

Sponsorship / City Funding Support: Seek sponsorship for all events and the flowerbeds

Events:
Coordinate, promote, facilitate, and report out on MSAA Events

  • Taste of Ann Arbor

  • Rolling Sculpture Car Show

  • Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair

  • Treat Parade

  • Midnight Madness

  • Santa’s Mailbox

  • Downtown Holiday Shopping Guide

Other Duties:

  • Manage the Main Street Area Social District

  • Stay informed on new developments, resolutions, or ordinances that might affect businesses and Downtown

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • College degree preferred

  • Experience in event management

  • Patient; intuitive; friendly and approachable attitude. Ability to relate to diverse groups and individuals

  • Attention to detail, highly organized, goal oriented with strong time management skills

  • Proactive approach to problem-solving; ability to seek opportunities and propose solutions

  • Ability to work in a highly autonomous environment

  • Proficiency in general graphic design programs (Adobe Suite and Microsoft Publisher)

Physical and Environmental Requirements: Requires occasional lifting, pushing and pulling objects over 25 pounds
