The Street Art Encounter is taking over the streets with bold color and live creativity!
Friday, September 11, 2026
12 PM – 8 PM | Free to the public
Join us on Friday, September 11, 2026, as downtown Ann Arbor is transformed into a vibrant, open-air gallery during the Street Art Encounter. From noon until sundown, watch as sidewalks and street spaces come alive with live street art, interactive installations, and creative expression from talented local and regional artists.
This family-friendly event invites the public to experience art in motion—no gallery walls, no velvet ropes—just raw creativity happening right before your eyes. You’ll see artists creating murals, chalk masterpieces, and experimental works directly on the streets, engaging with the community and turning the city into a canvas.

We’re proud to partner with John Vasquez again this year, a nationally recognized muralist and public artist from Saginaw, Michigan. Vasquez was featured in the Shine Bright Saginaw Mural Project, a transformative art initiative that reimagined downtown Saginaw through vibrant, large-scale works. He’ll serve as the lead artist for this year’s Encounter, bringing his dynamic vision and passion for public art to Ann Arbor.

Ann Arbor Art Center: A2AC Community Mural Wall
The Ann Arbor Art Center (A2AC) will join the Street Art Encounter with a special community art activation on Friday, September 11, from noon–5 PM.
The inside of the Art Center’s front ceramics studio windows along W. Liberty Street will be painted white to create a canvas for community artwork. A2AC will provide window paint for participants to use on the outside of the windows, along with chalk for creating artwork on the sidewalk in front of the Art Center.
Community members are invited to stop by throughout the afternoon and add their own artwork to the windows and sidewalk. Kelsey Hofe, A2AC’s Education Events Manager, and her staff will manage the supply tables and encourage passersby to participate.
The community artwork will remain on display overnight, with the studio lights left on so visitors can continue to view the artwork throughout the evening.
